Everything Fortnite Is Doing To Win Over Gamers

The apprehensions around Fortnite are consistent; Why are you playing a game designed for twelve year olds? What is this building nonsense? Why is everything so colorful? The answers are simple enough.

Epic Games is a powerful entity. Their recent migration out of the Apple store to avoid the 30% transaction fees for ingame purchases was truly a testament. What is even more impressive is pulling in music industry behemoths like Ariana Grande and Travis Scott onto the platform and pushing a healthy USD $20 million over a week’s worth of virtual concerts.

Imagine playing through a dynamic concert experience featuring some of the hottest artists in the world right now at no additional cost but internet access anywhere in the world. They carefully tie small pockets of the intricate fortnite storyline and minigames into an experience worth replaying. Do check out the concert footage on YouTube. By all means.

A bonus offered for attending these limited time events takes the form of experience you can cash in towards levelling up your battle pass. Did we mention the artist skins and other cosmetic items available in the shop for purchase?

Should concert going not be your area of interest, the gameplay mode Party Royale offers movie nights, screening both short films and movie trailers. Additionally, Epic Games is pretty quick to hype new television and film releases. With the new Marvel TV show, Loki out month before last, the Loki skin was available as part of the Fortnite Crew bundle (a recurring monthly payment plan offering a unique skin, the battle pass and in-game currency).

More recently the Ryan Reynolds movie Free Guy brought in the “Dude” skin modelled after the main man himself and in game quests to offer further context and raise interest. As well as the “Rick” skin featured as the last level for this season's Alien themed battle pass.

Can we also take a minute to acknowledge the number of other gaming titles that have features on the platform including Horizon Zero Dawn, Borderlands, Tomb Raider, Street Fighter and Halo. From playing as Aloy to maneuvering around in game map locations modelled after the harsh landscapes Lara Croft tends to traverse, you find yourself excited to introduce key figures from our childhoods into a new, interactive and dynamic space.

Still not convinced? Take some time out of your day to look at videos that map the Fortnite storyline on Youtube. The one hour plus information share will reveal an intricate plot surrounding government agencies, time travel and giant robots duking it out.

Explore map locations with unique themes and quirky elements; for anyone new to the gaming scene or apprehensive shooting games, this would be a visually pleasing and significantly simpler jumping off point.

Fortnite culture is not too heavy around the insults and doesn’t go out of its way to make you uncomfortable for not building. While encountering sweaty players in any game is a given, chances are you’re being told off by a thirteen year old with homework and school tomorrow morning. So the real question is, are you really going to let them talk to you like that?
