Mike Amiri's Fate Is Set In Fabric

Amiri jeans is a common name check in Hiphop. Because rappers like to self agrandize themselves and celebrate their success by dressing like it.

Amiri, the fashion brand is the brain child of Mike Amiri. An LA native who grew up in the rock and roll era. He took advantage of the 80s and 90s to immerse himself into his passion for fashion. And style.

From dressing rockstars to designing denim, Mike Amiri has created a distinct world that is true to him and his roots. Leading his LA-based namesake brand, Mike Amiri’s vision is laser-focused – explore our interview with the designer and discover his process and inspiration behind AMIRI.

TW:

You got your start working with legendary rockstars such as Keith Richards, Steven Tyler, and Axl Rose. Can you tell us more about that experience and how that led you to what AMIRI is today?

MA:

Designing stage pieces in my early years taught me to be very crafty and develop non-traditional techniques. As AMIRI grew, I learned to use these techniques as a part of the brand's DNA. Having such special details has really helped separate us from the traditional luxury brands.

TW:

Amiri denim is one of the hardest items to keep in stock. What is it about denim that you love? Is there a critical detail that is needed when designing the perfect pair of denim?

MA:

I grew up collecting vintage denim and obsessing over all the details. With AMIRI, I wanted to not only recreate the perfect jean but reimagine them as a true luxury piece of clothing. The fabrications and materials are all best in class, and no detail is overlooked.

TW:

What made you decided to design womenswear? How are the lines the same, and how do they differ?

MA:

Womenswear was a natural progression for the brand because I never separated the male rockstar from the female. The energy and confidence were always the same to me.

TW:

With strong ties to the music world, is their one musician past or present, that you feel embodies the total aesthetic of AMIRI?

MA:

Jim Morrison continues to be an inspiration. His look was timeless and authentic.
