Nairobi To South Memphis: Hiphop Labels To Watch


As of August 2021, Hiphop is 48 years old. Which rap-backed labels have all the buzz in 2021? Plenty. This short list is only 9 labels long. From Nairobi to South Memphis through to ATL and Chicago.

1. Blu Ink Corp

The base of operations for Khaligraph Jones as he continues to pursue his larger than life goal of heading hiphop in Kenya and the continent.


2. Paper Route Empire


Rumors that Young Dolph rejected a 20 million dollar record deal from a major label are true. PRE is, was and continues to be independent. Cash Money spelt backwards is Paper Route Empire.

3. Quarry Boyz Entertainment


The Kenyan equivalents of Michael Jordan and Denis Rodman- Timmy and Twenny are on a war path to expand their own record empire 11 months after leaving Vicelife Entertainment. 

4. Afrocentric


In Hiphop, money is the means to the top. Ask Katapilla. His label- Afrocentric just completed their 40 days and 40 nights in the wilderness when he won Khaligraph Jones' X Odi Bets rap challenge. Going forward, you won't be able to talk about unstoppable without mentioning Katapilla.

5. 4PF


Four Pockets Full is familiar to the knowing ones. Lil Baby and his label have one thing in common: they are both hard to overlook. Look up the roster. Google the discography.

6. ADF Music


The family of three is the best place to look if you are trying to find the leaders of Nairobi's new school. Taking over the city is priority #2 on Boutross' big bucket list. His #1 priority is to keep on shrapping over the rest.

7. OTF


Only The  Family. The label. Durkio has been assembling his troops and building his empire for close to 10 years. He calls himself the Chicago Jay Z for a reason.

8. Callivan Creatives


New rappers coming into the scene and established ones usually Call Ivan Odie for the recipe. And the ingredients. And the spices. Jovie Jovv, Steph Kapela, TNT, Shukid, Scar, Silverstone Barz, Vallerie Muthoni- Drummer Queen, Rabsari know what the deal is with Ivan Odie. Also spelt as Callivan Creatives.

9. 1017 Records


Gucci Mane signed Pooh Shiesty  and six other rappers for a reason. The New 1017  is Gucci Mane's own version of RocNation.
